Victoria’s leading women in resources shine in awards ceremony

Victoria’s leading women in resources have been recognised with winners announced for the prestigious Women in Resources Awards 2019. The ceremony was held in Melbourne last night by MCA Victoria, with the support of AusIMM Women in Mining and Resources Network Victoria.
The Victorian Women in Resources Awards recognise individual achievement and company efforts to increase gender diversity across mining operations, within corporate offices and across the mining equipment, technology and services sector.
The Hon. Jaclyn Symes, Minister for Regional Development, Agriculture and Resources presented awards to winners of each category in recognition of diversity programs and exceptional women working in Victoria’s minerals sector.
There were nominations across five categories, with finalists selected from a quality field based on experience, skill and passion.
Victorian Women in Mining Award winners and finalists for 2019 are:
  • Exceptional Woman in Victorian Resources ­
    Winner: Jane Burton, Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions ­
    Finalists: Jody Altmann, GHD and Sara Prendergast, ORICA
  • Victorian Gender Diversity Champion ­
    Winner: Craig Jetson, Newcrest Mining Limited
    Finalists: Val Madsen, St Barbara and Dona Carter, Deepcore Drilling
  • Exceptional Young Woman in Victorian Resources ­
    Winner: Bonnie Coxon, Newcrest Mining Limited ­
    Finalist: Caroline Dunning, Mandalay Resources
  • Outstanding Australian Trade Operator or Technician ­
    Winner: Emma McLean, Mandalay Resources ­
    Finalist: Kyra McCulloch, Emu Downs
  • Excellence in Company Programs and Performance ­
    Winner: GHD ­
    Finalist: Newcrest Mining Limited
Winners will progress to the national awards to be held in Sydney in September.
The Victorian awards are proudly supported by GHD, Ballarat Gold Mine, Mandalay Resources, Valenza Engineering and the Victorian Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions.
