Launched: 30 Things: Sports Edition

Today, the Minerals Council of Australia is pleased to launch 30 Things: Sports Edition.

This booklet is the third in a series of advocacy and educational resources that aim to highlight the importance of metals and minerals in our everyday lives and the Australian minerals industry’s contribution to the economy. This series can be found here.

Along with paying $356.6 billion in taxes and royalties and investing $236.3 billion in the Australian economy over the last 10 years, Australian minerals companies are some of the biggest financial contributors to the sports we love.

From Hancock Prospecting, the nation’s largest private benefactor of Olympic and Paralympic teams to BHP, helping create a genuinely level playing field for women’s football and the AFLW, these major sponsorships run parallel to the industry’s broader investments in the regions to which they belong.

Particularly in an Olympic year, the MCA wants to emphasise the role that minerals and metals have on the sports we all love to play, watch and support. From the nickel and aluminium in the Olympic torch to the gold, copper and rare earth elements in fitness trackers it all starts with minerals.

The MCA and its members wish all of our Aussie sports stars luck at the upcoming games.
