Michael Wright
Michael Wright was appointed Executive Chair of Thiess in February 2020 and Chief Executive Officer in July 2021. With more than 30 years of experience across the resources and industrial sectors in Australia, Asia, Africa and the Americas, Michael brings deep operational and strategic expertise.
Prior to his current role, Michael served as CEO of ASX-listed CIMIC Group, overseeing Sedgman, UGL, CPB Contractors, Leighton Asia, Pacific Partnerships and Thiess. He joined Thiess in 1998 as a Project Manager, and progressed through leadership roles spanning mining, construction and industrial & environmental services.
Michael is a highly regarded and innovative leader focused on delivering value to clients and inspiring operational excellence by building strong, safe and performance-driven teams.
Michael is Chair of the International River Foundation, a not for profit focused on promoting global best practice in river management and restoration. Michael also sits on the Strategic Advisory Board of the University of Queensland’s Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and Information Technology. In addition, Michael is Independent Non-executive Director of ASX-listed Transurban Ltd.
Michael holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) from the University of Sydney and a Master of Engineering Science (Environmental) from the University of New South Wales. He has also completed the Advanced Management Program (AMP) at Harvard Business School.
