Head of Global Coal Assets

Mr Melamed has over 25 years’ experience in the mining and resources sector following careers in Banking payment system services, IT and property development and construction.

 

In 2021, he was appointed Head of Glencore’s Global Coal Assets, with responsibilities for an operating portfolio including 23 mines, 2 ports, rail and projects in Australia, South Africa, Colombia, and Canada. Prior to this, he was Chief Financial Officer of Glencore’s global coal business.

 

He joined Glencore in 1998 and has been a key contributor to the growth of the business during this time. His other responsibilities in the company have included, Asset Manager and Director of a large integrated mine, port and rail joint venture in Colombia, Directorships of a port terminal, Glencore’s Singaporean captive insurance company and three ASX-listed subsidiary mining and resource companies with Assets in Australia and Central Africa.

 

Mr Melamed is a member of Glencore plc’s Leadership Team and its ESG Committee. He is the current Chairman of the International Energy Agency’s (IEA) Coal Industry Advisory Board (CIAB) and Director and Vice Chairman of the Minerals Council of Australia.

 

He has a Commerce degree and an Accounting degree and is a member of the Australian Institute of Chartered Accountants.

 

He is based in Glencore’s Global Coal corporate office in Sydney.
